What to do when a casino blocks your account, in the order that works

An account freeze with a balance inside is the situation every review on this site is trying to predict, and the reviews record what each cashier's terms allow and what readers report. This guide is for the reader it has already happened to: the order of steps, from getting the reason in writing to escalating past a casino that will not answer, and what escalation means when the licence comes from a regulator with no complaints desk.

Step one: the reason, in writing

Live chat is where a block is discovered and the worst place to argue it, because a chat transcript is the casino's to keep. Ask the agent for the reason and the clause, then send the same question by email to the support address the review lists, and ask that the reply state the reason, the term relied on, and what is needed to lift the block. The reasons come in a handful of forms: verification not completed, a bonus term the casino says was broken, a duplicate account or a name mismatch, a restricted country, a source-of-funds review. Each has a different next step, and a casino that will not name one has already told you something.

  • The terms page, saved the day of the block

Step two: supply exactly what is asked

Most blocks readers report at the brands here are verification holds, and most of those end when the document arrives. Supply what is named and nothing else: a passport for identity, a bill or bank letter for address, a statement showing the deposit leaving your account for source of funds. Uncropped, all four corners, the name matching the account. Where the casino says a bonus term was broken, read the term it cites, the max bet, the excluded games, the cashout cap, the one-bonus-per-household rule, and compare it with your history; the voided bonus guide lists the clauses that get used. Where the block is a duplicate account and you do not have one, say so in writing and ask which account is alleged to be the duplicate.

Then wait a reasonable time. A document check that a person reads takes about a day or two by the norm regulators cite, and the reviews say what each brand's terms promise. A week after a written request with the document supplied and no answer, the hold has become a refusal and the next step applies.

What a deposit is owed

Bonus winnings can be voided under bonus terms. An unwagered deposit is the player's money, and a casino keeping it must point to a clause that says why; the French regulator ANJ, in guidance reported in September 2026, states that suspicion alone does not justify withholding a player's balance. That is the sentence to quote back.

Step three: escalate where a route exists

Find the licence in the footer and the regulator behind it, using the verification guide if the footer is ambiguous. The Malta Gaming Authority accepts player complaints against its licensees and works through approved dispute resolution providers; the UK Gambling Commission requires each licensee to offer an approved ADR body and the body's decision binds the casino; Kahnawake, Gibraltar, the Isle of Man and Alderney run player dispute processes. A complaint to any of these needs the file from step one: the reason given, the term cited, the documents supplied, the dates. Write it in order, attach everything, and copy the casino. Casinos that ignore a player answer a regulator, because the licence is at stake.

Before the regulator

Some regulators require that the casino's own complaints procedure be exhausted first. Send a formal complaint by email with the word complaint in the subject, give the deadline the casino's terms set for answering, and only then file.

When there is no route

Most brands on this site are licensed in Curaçao or Anjouan, and neither regulator runs a dispute process; the Curaçao Gaming Authority licenses, supervises and publishes warnings, and a refused withdrawal is outside what it handles. What remains is public pressure and the record. A complaint on a mediation site with the full file, written plainly and dated, is read by the casino's affiliate managers and often answered within days because the brand's rating there feeds its traffic. A complaint to the payment provider, where the deposit was by card, can recover an unwagered deposit through a chargeback, which is the one lever a card gives that a coin does not. And a message to us, with the file, goes into the review: the reviews here record refused withdrawals and the trust mark moves.

Do not open a second account to withdraw, do not deposit again to free the first, and do not accept a partial payment offered in chat as full settlement without it being written down. The regulators review explains which licences give a route and which do not, and the time to read it is before the next deposit.

What the reviews record

Which documents the terms require and when, what the terms promise for the check, whether support answered by email, and what readers report. Brands readers report holding a balance with no document requested are marked down on trust and the review says so.

Questions about blocked accounts

Why would a casino block an account

The reasons casinos give fall into a few groups: a document check that has not been completed, a bonus term the casino says was broken, a second account or a mismatch between the account name and the documents, a country the casino does not accept, or a source-of-funds review. Each has a different fix, and the first step is to get the reason in writing.

Can a casino keep my deposit

Bonus terms let a casino void bonus winnings, and duplicate-account and restricted-country terms often say the balance is forfeited. A deposit that has not been wagered is a different matter, and a casino that keeps one has to point to the clause; the French regulator's guidance states that suspicion alone does not justify withholding a balance.

Who do I complain to

The regulator that licensed the casino, if it accepts player complaints: Malta, the UK, Kahnawake, Gibraltar, the Isle of Man and Alderney do. The Curaçao Gaming Authority and Anjouan license and supervise and run no dispute process, so for most brands on this site the escalation is public: a documented complaint on a mediation site, and the review here, which records outcomes.

How long should I wait

A document check that a person reads takes about a day or two by the norm regulators cite; the reviews record what each brand promises. After a written request for the specific document and a week with no answer, treat the hold as a refusal and escalate.
